News on Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s long-awaited sequel to 2005’s Sin City had been few and far between until this week. Joseph Gordon-Levitt joined the film on Monday and now former Law & order: Special Victims Unit star Christopher Meloni has joined the cast in another lead role.
Deadline confirmed today that Meloni will play a cop in the film. Other details on the role have not been revealed, but it is considered a lead part.
Meloni is best known as detective Elliot Stabler on SVU, but he also starred on HBO’s Oz and most recently appeared on True Blood. He is also star in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.
Gordon-Levitt joined A Dame To Kill For on Monday. He is set to play another lead role as Johnny.
Most of the original Sin City cast is expected to return, including Jessica Alba, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis. Cinemablend notes that the film will take place prior to the events in the original hit 2005 film. The Sin City books are filled with tough cop characters, any of which Meloni could easily play in the film.
Deadline has been reporting that Gangster Squad star Josh Brolin could be considered for a role in A Dame To Kill For.
The film is currently scheduled for release on Oct. 4.
