Critics’ Choice Movie Awards loves 'Argo' and 'Silver Linings Playbook'

By Xingye Li,

On the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards on Thursday evening, Argo won best picture and Ben Afflect won best director. Silver Linings Playbook swept the comedy awards, winning best comedy film, best comedy actor and actress and best acting ensemble.

It was a surprise that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences didn’t nominate Ben Affleck for best director for his thrilling drama Argo, but the Critics’ Choice Awards made this up several hours after the Oscar nominations were announced. MTV reports that Ben Affleck joked when he accepted the award, “I’d like to thank the Academy. . .I’m Kidding. This is the one that counts.”

Another big winner was Jennifer Lawrence. Best comedy actress in Silver Linings Playbook and best action actress in The Hunger Game prove her versatility and popularity. “Critics aren’t so bad,” she said, “seriously, I love Critics.” Reported by Reuters .

Beside these, Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln) and Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) won best actor and actress respectively. Life of Pi only won two technical awards - best cinematography and visual effects.
