Last Saturday on WeTV was the world premiere of Cyndi Lauper's reality show, Cyndi Lauper: Still So Unusual. The 56- year- old Grammy award winning songwriter, singer, fashion trendsetter, and activist is known for her various hits: "True Colors," "Time After Time" and "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." But, outside of music and conquering the world, Lauper is also a mother and wife to veteran actor, David Thornton.
Life is definitely a roller coaster for the rock star because she has various titles. But, Lauper's adventurous and energetic personality is revealed on the show when she spends quality time with her family and close friend, Kathy Griffin. The back to back episodes were about Lauper singing "Girls Just Want to have Fun" on the musical reality show, The Voice, accepting that her 14 year old son, Declyn is growing up, performing in Kentucky, enjoying herself on a race track, and balancing her professional and personal life.
To the world and outside viewers, she is an icon to many but to David and Declyn, she is just Cyndi. Also on the show, Lauper talks about being a songwriter and composer for Harvey Fierstein's Broadway muscial, Kinky Boots, and finishing up the final touches on her memoir. Kinky Boots will premiere in March.
According to Lauper, the musical is a "little story with a big heart, about a guy who thinks outside the box and saves people's jobs. And also it's about people who couldn't be more different from each other who, as they work together, realize that they couldn't be more alike. ... Who wouldn't want to be a part of that?"
Overall Lauper's reality show is comical, interesting, and viewers will be entertained each time they will watch the show. Lauper's show is not tedious but it let viewers know that Cyndi is all grown up but stayed true to her self throughout the years. It may be unusual for some but in Cyndi's eyes, this is who I am, take it or leave it!
