Daniel Radcliffe addresses shock over gay sex scenes in 'Kill Your Darlings'

By Gina DiFalco,

Daniel Radcliffe’s gay love scene in Kill Your Darlings is a far cry from his beloved role as Harry Potter. Since that particular scene is garnering a lot of attention, Radcliffe is addressing it.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday, and it has been catching a lot of buzz. However, Radcliffe doesn’t understand what all the hype is about.

“It's interesting that it's deemed shocking," he told MTV News. "For me, there's something very strange about that because we see straight sex scenes all the time. We've seen gay sex scenes before. I don't know why a gay sex scene should be any more shocking than a straight sex scene. Or both of them are equally un-shocking."

One of the reasons the gay rights activist doesn’t understand the hoopla about the scene is because he once mutilated horses on a Broadway stage as well as stood naked in front of audiences.

“What weirded me out the most last night was people were asking me all these questions about the gay sex scenes. I was like, 'You know I did'Equus?' " he said. "Some people are asking me questions like this is a more shocking subject, which is so strange."

He also dished about shooting the scene, "We didn't really have time to feel awkward. I think we shot the thing in about an hour, hour and a half or something like that. You just kind of had to get it done. I'm trying to avoid using phrasing that could slip into innuendo!"

Starpulse reports that Radcliffe has worked closely with the organization the Trevor Project, which helps aid lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender youths with suicide prevention.
