David Bowie releases ‘Where Are We Now?,' first new song in a decade

By Sarah McClanahan,

Since its release today, rock legend David Bowie’s new single, “Where Are We Now?” has already soared to number one on the download charts.

David Bowie sure knows how to celebrate his 66th birthday in style - with a number one single.

The Huffington Post reports that the song was written by Bowie and produced by Tony Visconti. It was recorded in New York, where Bowie currently lives with his wife, Iman Abdulmajid, and 12-year-old daughter, Alexandria.

David Bowie has not been making many public appearances since he last performed in 2006. Despite offers, Bowie even declined to perform at last year’s Olympics Opening Ceremony.

According to the Mirror, few people knew about this project and it was recorded in secrecy. He has no plans for interviews or live performances at the moment.

“To say this has been a surprise is an understatement. Only a few people in his innermost circle knew he was recording again and no-one has heard the final album. There are no plans for any promotion or performances. He just wants to let fans hear his music and make their own minds up,” a spokesmansaid of his reclusiveness.

In fact, it is the first time we have heard new songs from him since his album Reality, back in 2003.

His upcoming album The Next Day is due out in March and, according to Mirror, has already had huge successes in pre-sales.
