Dexter fans don’t have to wait until the fall to find out what will happen to Deb and Dexter following the December season finale because, as it was announced by Showtime, the eighth, and what’s looking to be the final season of Dexter will premiere this summer.
“Fall seems so far away, doesn’t it?” it was teased on the Dexter Twitter and Facebook pages over the weekend. An official announcement soon followed.
“We have some EXCITING NEWS… Get ready to spend your summer with Dexter! Returning for an eighth season on Sunday, June 30th at 9PM.”
According to Hitfix, Dexter’s summer premiere was announced by Showtime Entertainment President David Nevins during the Television Critics Association press tour on Saturday.
Dexter’s summer premiere is in place to help launch new shows premiering on the network. The series premiere of Ray Donovan will directly follow the Dexter season 8 premiere. Homeland will still get a fall premiere date, but two new shows will follow.
It has been said that season 8 will be the final season of Dexter, yet there has been no confirmation as of yet.
Said David Nevins, "I'm not making any announcements today about when Dexter will end. I think I will clarify before Dexter goes on the air for this next season. There's a clear end game in place. I can't talk about it just yet.”
What direction will the show be taken this season? We'll soon find out. As many fans already know, season 7 ended with the death of Maria LaGuerta, who grew increasingly suspicious of Dexter Morgan as the season progressed. In the final moments of the season, Dexter’s foster sister, Deb, was forced to choose between her brother and LaGuerta. It was in that moment she became responsible for a murder.
