Sir Elton John and David Furnish are parents again. The couple confirmed the happy news today, a week after it was first reported.
The “Crocodile Rock” singer confirmed the news on his website. Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John was born on Friday, Jan. 11.
John’s site links to an interview with Hello Magazine.
“Both of us have longed to have children, but the reality that we now have two sons is almost unbelievable,” the couple told the magazine. “The birth of our second son completes our family in a most precious and perfect way. It is difficult to fully express how we are feeling at this time; we are just overwhelmed with happiness and excitement.”
Elijah was born in Los Angeles via a surrogate and weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces. He joins Zachary, who was born in 2010.
John told The Guardian last year that he and Furnish hoped to have a second child so Zachary wasn’t an only child.
“I think it's difficult to be an only child, and to be an only child of someone famous,” he told the site. “I want him to have a sibling so he has someone to be with.”
He continued, “I know when he goes to school there's going to be an awful lot of pressure, and I know he's going to have people saying, 'You don't have a mummy.' It's going to happen. We talked about it before we had him. I want someone to be at his side and back him up. We shall see.”
