A Florida man is being accused of biting off the left thumb of his on-again, off-again girlfriend during a fight on Wednesday.
Palm Bay police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez told Florida Today that the case came to their attention when a woman called Holmes Regional Medical Center.
The woman told the nurse that she needed attention for a severed thumb. During the call, she continued to say, “I can’t believe he bit my finger off,” Martinez explained.
The man was identified as Ricardo Davis. According to WESH Orlando, investigators said the fight started while they were in a car. It suddenly took a violent turn when the woman pushed Davis. When he went to retaliate, he apparently led with his teeth and bit off the woman’s thumb. He then spit out the thumb. Unfortunately, doctors could not reattach it.
“He was driving to work, she works at a Taco Bell in Palm Bay,” Martinez explained to Florida Today. “During the course of the drive down to work they got into a verbal argument, and she basically became upset. She kind of pushed his head, and he responded by biting (her thumb).”
Davis later confessed to the crime and was in court on Thursday. He was charged with aggravated battery.
