There will be a marriage in that famous galaxy far, far away. Star Wars creator George Lucas and his longtime girlfriend Mellody Hobson are engaged to be married.
The Huffington Post confirmed that Lucas, 68, and Hobson, 43, are officially engaged. The two have been linked since 2006 and are often spotted hand-in-hand and events like the Cannes Film Festival and the NAACP awards.
Hobson is a businesswoman, leading the Chicago-based Ariel Investments LLC, reports The Hollywood Reporter. She is also the chairman of Ariel Mutual Funds and DreamWorks Animation. She has also appeared on Good Morning America as a financial contributor and hosted a show titled Unbroke: What You Need to Know About Money in 2009.
This news comes just months after Disney purchased Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion, making headlines around the world. The deal hands the reins of Star Wars to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who will oversee the production of new films. The first will hit theaters in 2015.
Lucas is taking a back seat, promising to act only as a consultant on the new Star Wars films. A majority of the funds from the Disney purchase will go to charities, Lucas has said.
