Christian Bale turns 39 today!

Christian Charles Philip Bale was born in Wales, UK, to an entrepreneur and animal right activist father, and a circus performer mother.

Bale was eight when he made a debut appearance on the screen - a commercial for fabric softener Lenor. He continued to get hired and drew more media exposure and appeared on stage with Rowan Atkinson.

Even though Bale's film debut was Anastasia: Mystery of Anna, he caught public's eyes only two years later, as a 14-year-old, in Steven Spielberg's movie Empire of the Sun.

The English actor is famous for evolving himself deeply in a character.

For the psychological thriller The Machinist, he crashed into a diet of coffee and apple everyday, resulting in losing 63 pounds in months.

His dedication to acting landed him a role in Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy, a role that made him famous worldwide.

He portrayed Dicky Ecklund in The Fighter, a role that earned him Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor and Academy Award in the same category.

Christian Bale is currently married with former model, make-up artist, and Winona Ryder's assistant, Sandra Blažić. They have an eight-year-old daughter Emmeline together.
