Mischa Barton turns 27 today!
Born in Hammersmith, London, Mischa Anne Marsden Barton began her acting debut at eight years old on the stage, co-starring in Tony Kushner's off-Broadway production Slavs!.
One of the theatre critics from the New York Times judged her performance to be "so fine" and "chillingly authoritative."
She began acting in more off-Broadway productions, taking a leading role in some of them, such as James Lapine's Twelve Dreams, and with co-star Diane West in One Flea Spare.
Barton used her on-stage experiences to be a stepping stone to establishing her acting career.
The English and American actress made her film debut Lawn Dogs in 1997, a worldwide award-winning movie. Janet Maslin, a film and literary critic, complimented Barton's performance in the movie.
She then continued to appear in several others critically acclaimed movies, such as Notting Hill, and The Sixth Sense.
Barton went on to act in more movies, and finally landed the role of Marissa Cooper in The O.C., a TV series that skyrocketed her fame. She earned some Teen Choice Awards during her time on the show.
Other than acting, Barton also garnered some experiences from modeling. She modeled for clothing lines, such as Bebe, Monsoon Accessorize and Calvin Klein.
Mischa Barton contributes to society through her charity work in Climate Star, an organization that fights global warming through activism.
She once worked with home shopping company QVC to fund cancer research, and became an ambassador for an organization that provided water in remote African areas.
