LeBron James and the Miami Heat defeated Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers 99-90 Thursday night. The Lakers tried to rally back in the fourth quarter, but the champions were too much for them.
This highly anticipated game did not disappoint the viewers as everyone wanted to see Kobe versus LeBron. Bryant scored 22 points in the game. James finished the game with 39 points, actually scoring the final nine for the Heat to get the win. This was the final game on their six game road trip. According to The Miami Herald, James said after the game, “We closed out the trip the right way, and we want to build from it. We wanted to do much better, of course, after the way we started, losing to Indiana and Portland.”
The Heat’s Ray Allen scored seven points in the last six minutes of the game to also help hold off the Lakers. The Heat not only displayed a championship level of strong mentality against this team that plays well at home, but they played great defense as well.
According to The Associated Press, Lakers’ head coach Mike D’Antoni said in a post game interview, “I thought we played well enough to beat them, that’s a championship level team. They turned on all the juices, so it’s a good measuring stick. That’s what they do, and we have to get better. We’ve got to get smoother.”
The Heat play the Toronto Raptors next on January 23, and the Lakers also play the Raptors earlier.
