With news of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West expecting their first child, a video has surfaced of an interview that West’s mother, Donda West, gave before she passed away in 2007.
Donda openly spoke about knowing West wanted to “take over the world” even as a baby. She talked about his early years, recalling what his Kindergarten teacher once said to her.
“I never saw that blank stare in Kanye’s eyes,” she told Vh1. “Some babies come here, and it takes them a little bit longer to focus. It just seems like he came here knowing something, maybe something that I didn’t even know. … I looked into his eyes, and he had those two fingers in his mouth, and it just seemed like he was saying, ‘OK, I’m a few months old now; let me plan how I’m going to take over the world.’ ”
Donda went on to say about a young Kanye, “His kindergarten teacher did say, ‘Oh, there’s no lack of self-confidence here, is there?’ So, I didn’t exactly know how to take that.”
She added, “Did it mean, ‘Oh, this is really an outspoken child, a little bit too outspoken,’ or did it mean … ‘He really has a good sense of self’? So I took it as the latter, and that’s what I tried to cultivate.”
As we previously reported, West spilled the beans that his girlfriend was pregnant during one of his shows last weekend, referring to her as his “baby momma.”
