Robert Downey Jr, will be suiting up as Iron Man on larger screens this year with Iron Man 3. Marvel and Disney announced today that the film will hit IMAX 3D screens worldwide a week before its standard release.
In a press release posted at Deadline, the studios said that Iron Man 3 will hit IMAX theaters on April 25 around the world. That’s a week before it opens domestically on May 3.
Iron Man 3 will be directed by Shane Black, who replaces Jon Favreau, who directed the first two. The film stars Ben Kingsley as the new villain and Guy Pearce, as well as Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, who are returning to their roles from the previous films. Of course, Downey will return as Tony Stark. The film is set after The Avengers and begins the second phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Parts of the film were shot in China and the film will be a Chinese co-production. It was not filmed in IMAX, so it will have to be remastered to fit the large format.
Collider notes that the previous Iron Man films have grossed $1 billion.
