J.D. Salinger to be the focus of new biography and documentary

The mysterious life of author J.D. Salinger will be revealed in the upcoming year.

According to CBS News, a biography on The Catcher in the Rye author will be published in September. An oral biography titled The Private War of J.D. Salinger was purchased by Simon & Schuster. The documentary has been in the works for seven years by author David Shields and filmmaker Shane Salerno.

"We are honored to be the publisher of what we believe will be the foundational book on one of the most beloved and most puzzling figures of the 20th century," said Simon & Schuster publisher Jonathan Karp.

The documentary will air next January on PBS for the 200th episode of American Masters. It includes interviews with over 150 sources who were either close to the author, worked with him at some point in his life or was influenced by his work reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Salinger died 2010 at the age of 91. The biggest question of whether or not Salinger left behind any unpublished manuscripts has yet to be answered.
