Jennifer Lawrence confirms that perceived Meryl Streep dig at Golden Globes was just a joke (Video)

Jennifer Lawrence sparked some controversy with her Meryl Streep comment at the Golden Globes on Sunday night when she picked up her award for Silver Linings Playbook. While on The Late Show with David Letterman, the actress confirmed that it was just a joke.

During the awards show, Lawrence looked at the statue and said, "What does it say! I beat Meryl!”

Lindsay Lohan, who was live-tweeting the Globes, was one of Lawrence’s Twitter critics, writing, “Words cannot express how much I LOVE Kristen Wiig. And no1 should ever mess with a legend, such as Meryl Streep.”

During her interview with Letterman, Lawrence confirmed that it was just a quote from First Wives’ Club, which many who had seen that film suspected.

Lawrence admitted that she was surprised by the reaction and was puzzled. “You can’t offend Meryl Streep,” she told Letterman.

As E! News notes, Lawrence also suggested that she should have been in Zero Dark Thirty.

“I should've been in the background like, 'Yeah, catch him! Obama!’” she accidentally said. “Obama?! I mean Osama...Bin Laden! Don't catch Obama! Sorry. Sorry, Mr. President.”

Lawrence also said that fans should expect her on Twitter anytime soon. If she was on Twitter, she’d only write about “anal leakage.”
