Jennifer Lawrence 'I beat Meryl' controversy response

“I beat Meryl.” The three little words that have caused a controversy involving Golden Globe winner Jennifer Lawrence.

Sunday, at the Golden Globes, Lawrence won “Best Leading Actress in a Drama” for her role in Silver Linings Playbook.

When she got on stage to accept the award, a bright eyed Lawrence quoted a famous line from The First Wives Club.

“What does it say? I beat Meryl!” she said upon accepting the award.

Lindsay Lohan had something to say about Ms. Lawrence taking a “jab” at Streep.

“No one should ever mess with a legend like Meryl Streep,” Lohan tweeted

According to The Huffington Post, Lawrence had no idea that this was going on and she spoke about it last night on The Late Show with David Letterman.

"I was like, is that what this turned into? I don’t like Meryl Streep?" she told Letterman, "As if I’ve had my eyes on getting that girl forever and I was like, 'Finally! I knew it would happen one day!'

Lawrence admitted that Meryl Streep is one of her favorite actresses; she was not trying to offend her.
