Although Jennifer Lopez has moved on from her divorce from Marc Anthony with boyfriend Casper Smart, she admits that it was a difficult time in her life.
Lopez said she started filming her new film Parker at the time she was going through with the divorce, a time she "felt like my whole world had fallen apart."
It was this experience that gave Lopez the motivation to play her character, as "Leslie had just gone through her own divorce," she told People. "It's a bad time in her life."
She also said of being cast in the film, “[Director Taylor Hackford] called me and he was like, 'I have a part for you,' and I was like, 'Really? Oh, cool. What is it?' And he was like, 'You know, I've been watching you on American Idol, and I love that girl. I love her, but that's not who I want. But it made me think something in this character. … When I see you there, I think you never give up. You keep going.' "
Lopez continued, "Leslie, even when she's down on the bottom and everything is bad at that time, she won't give up, she still has a glimmer of hope."
When it comes to the twins she shares with Anthony, Max and Emme, 4, she reveals they’ve been asking some tough questions.
"They ask hard things. They'll say, 'Didn't Daddy used to live here? When is he coming back to sleep here?' And I say, 'Yes he did, but he has his own home now,'” ABC reports. “I just try to make it OK for them because that's all I care about. I don't want to damage them in any way."
