J.J. Abrams: 'Star Wars' directing job is 'surreal'

It was announced this week J.J. Abrams officially signed on to direct Star Wars VII film. Abrams is now finally commenting on his new gig, which has all of Hollywood talking.

The Huffington Post says Abrams calls his new assignment “as surreal as it is exciting.”

Abrams made an appearance at the Producers Guild Awards (PGA) on Saturday night and spoke to several news outlets about his new job. He was at the PGA to accept the Norman Lear Achievement Award for his television work for Felicity , Alias , Lost , and Fringe .

E! Online reports Star Wars creator George Lucas commenting on Abrams as the new director: “I’ve consistently been impressed with J.J. as a filmmaker and storyteller. He’s an ideal choice to direct the new Star Wars film and the legacy couldn’t be in better hands.”

Episode VII is still in its infant stages. However, Abrams is excited to get to work.

“You know, obviously, it’s so early,” he replied. “I can just say what I want to do: I want to do the fans proud. I want to make sure the story is something that touches people. And we’re just getting started. I’m very excited.”
