Paul Thomas Anderson’s next movie Inherent Vice was said to be played by Robert Downey, but recently, it is reportedly that Joaquin Phoenix will replace Downey to play the leading role.
Inherent Vice is an adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel. It sets in Los Angeles during 1969 and 1970. Doc Sportello, the protagonist, is a detective, trying to solve a kidnapping case.
Huffington Post reported that Downey has showed great interest working with Anderson and has been attached to the movie for a while. Downey used to say, “Anything that has to do with Paul Thomas Anderson and I doing a movie is probably true.” The reason for why Downey drop out is not clear, but probably because of scheduling.
Information on other cast remains speculative. But rumors have surfaced linking Charlize Theron to the movie, reported Cinemablend.
If Phoenix really is on board, this will be the second time he cooperates with Anderson. Phoenix appeared in The Master, which received Oscar-nominations for Best Actor for Phoenix's part, and Best Supporting Actor and Actress for Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams portrayals.
