John Mayer performs at fundraiser for the first time since vocal chord surgeries (Video)

John Mayer has returned to the stage to sing live for the first time since April 2011.

Katy Perry’s boyfriend did a show to benefit firefighters in Montana on Wednesday night, which raised approximately $100,000 for firefighters who fought a wildfire near Livingston last summer which almost ruined his home there.

According to The New York Times, Mayer’s return to the stage marks the first time he has performed since undergoing two surgeries to remove growths on his throat that were straining his vocal chords.

Last year, he was forced to cancel his spring tour dates.

He said at the time “I have no choice but to take an indefinite break from live performing. Though there will be a day when all of this will be behind me, it will sideline me for a longer period of time than I care to have you count down."

He has performed since then, however, just not using his vocals. He played guitar with the Rolling Stones last month and he also performed with Frank Ocean during a performance on Saturday Night Live.
