Dancing with the Stars choreographer Julianne Hough is featured on the cover of the February 2013 issue of Cosmopolitan where she discusses the abuse she suffered as a 10-year-old girl.
Hough joined her brother Derek at London’s Italia Conti Academy of the Arts where the abuse, (Hough does not specify what or with whom) took place.
“I was 10 years old looking like I was 28, being a very sensual dancer,” she admits to the magazine. “I was a tormented little kid who had to put on this sexy facade because that was my job and my life. But my heart was the same, and I was this innocent little girl. I wanted so much love."
“While I was in London, I was abused, mentally, physically, everything," she continues. "I'm a very forgiving person, and I don't want to hurt anybody. What's past is past." Uncomfortably, she admits it got worse, "...when I started hitting puberty, when I started becoming a woman and stopped being a little girl."
“You can kind of hear the quiver in my voice…” she acknowledges. “This is the farthest I've ever gotten into my London situation," she explains. "I was told if I ever went back to the United States, three things were going to happen. One: I was going to amount to nothing. Two: I was going to work at Whataburger. And three: I was going to end up a slut. So, it was like, I can't go back. I have to be this person."
Hough, who is currently dating Ryan Seacrest, has conquered a lot in her 24 years. She has won two seasons of Dancing with the Stars, starred in Footloose and the upcoming Safe Haven, which People reports is what brought up the memory of her abuse. Hough stars as abused woman, Katie, who falls in love with a widower, played by Josh Duhamel.
Hough’s issue of Cosmopolitan hits the shelves Jan. 8.
