Kelly Clarkson performs moving 'My Country, 'Tis of Thee' at presidential inauguration (Video)

American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson was one of many to have the honor of performing for President Barack Obama’s second presidential inauguration. The “Stronger” singer performed her own take on “My Country, 'Tis of Thee” and the performance is already receiving rave reviews.

Taking to the Capitol Building's West Front, Clarkson effortlessly performed the patriotic song which followed with a handshake from Obama as well as a congratulations her for a job well done, MTV reports.

Clarkson’s performance was joined by the United States Marine Band, >Huffington Post reports. Clarkson’s performance took place just moments after Obama made his inauguration address.

The newly engaged singer voiced her support as a Republican previously, but backed the Democrat after he voiced his support for women’s rights and gay rights.

She explained to MTV at the time, “I'm not really down with Mitt Romney's ideals for throwing women back to the '50s," she said. "I'm for gay rights. I'm for anyone's rights. I'm for gay rights, heterosexual rights, purple people's rights."

Clarkson’s performance was followed by Beyonce, who performed the National Anthem.
