Last night the Boston Celtics defeated the New York Knicks 102-96 in a very intense road game. During the game Anthony and Garnett had to be separated numerous times because of the physical altercations.
For people who aren’t familiar with Garnett, this is something very common for him. He’s a very competitive person, so anytime that he plays against someone, there’s a lot of trash talk and physical play. It gets him going. That made it all more surprising the Anthony reacted the way he did.
According to ESPN, when Garnett was interviewed about the situation he said, “Listen, heat of the battle, man, guys throw back and forth. He's trying to get his team to go; I'm trying to get my team to go. Both teams are colliding. Not to mention that it's the Knicks and the Celtics. Just what it is.”
The New York Post reports that Anthony was so angry that he told Garnett that he would be waiting outside the facility for him. Anthony started by exiting the visiting teams tunnel and yelling at Garnett and tried to continue at the Celtics’ team bus. New York police and MSG security got involved at that point.
It’s rare that you see players react this strongly towards other players knowing the consequences of their actions and that everybody is watching.
