Oklahoma City Thunder’s new shooting guard, Kevin Martin, wishes to stay and continue his career in Oklahoma City. This summer he becomes a free agent, and the only thing he needs in order to stay is a new contract with the team.
Martin has been on a few different teams around the National Basketball Association, playing for teams like the Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets. He just hopes he can stay put with the Thunder.
According to the New Daily Thunder, "This summer, hopefully everything works out here,” Martin told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday. “I haven’t said that too often. But I will put it out there; hopefully I have found a home in the NBA. I love playing with this group of guys. The organization is great to me. The community has been great to me. It’s the happiest I have been during my NBA career. This is my spot … hopefully.”
Since Martin is from Ohio, he definitely enjoys the small town feel that Oklahoma City provides him. He goes out and explores the area and talks with people, unlike the staying in he did in bigger cities that he's resided in the past. He’s set to earn $12.4 million after this season is over. It’s going to be hard to keep him after looking at the team salary cap space.
After talking to the Thunder’s general manager, Sam Presti, Yahoo! Sports reports he said when asked about the situation, "We will handle anything contractual at the appropriate time when the season is concluded. We certainly are pleased with [Martin] and excited about how he has fit in and how hard he has worked to fit in."
