Los Angeles Laker Dwight Howard is injured and will sit out indefinitely. He has a torn labrum, which is a shoulder injury. The injury was announced following the loss to the Denver Nuggets last night.
Howard’s injury originated from the Lakers inner-city rival game versus the Los Angeles Clippers. After aggravating it further last night, he is unable to play. According to the LA Times Howard said in an interview, "I don't need surgery. It should keep me out for a while but [I need] to make sure that I'm cautious, to make sure that I get healthy, that's the most important thing."
SI reports that Pau Gasol is also out for the Lakers after receiving an elbow to the nose from Javalle McGee last night. The team has to clear him past the concussion tests in order for him to be active.
These injuries put a real hindrance on the Lakers' chances to make the playoffs. They are 15-18 after losing three games in a row and will have to face the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs in the next few days. If their big men don’t get healthy in a hurry, the Lakers will have major problems.
