The good news just keeps rolling in for Macklemore!
Earlier this week, the Seattle-based hip-hop artist proposed to his girlfriend Trisha Davis, announcing on his Twitter, “After 7 years… I asked. And she said yes.”
And now just two days later, Macklemore, whose real name is Ben Haggerty, has topped the Billboard Hot 100 with his hit song “Thrift Shop.” According to Time, he is the first independent artist to do so in almost twenty years. In fact, Macklemore is only the second indie artist to accomplish this feat ever, following Lisa Loeb.
Apparently, the rapper is in complete shock. He told MTV, “I thought it was going to be like a niche demographic that some of our fanbase would like. I never thought that it would be much more than that."
But the singer feels confident in his abilities and looks forward to his future in music. "I want to continue to push it. I want to shoot a couple of more music videos," he said.
