The feud between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj has been widely reported on since the two started working together on Season 12 of American Idol, and now Carey says it went so far that she had to hire extra security.
In an interview with Barbara Walters on ABC News, Carey said that following their argument she felt increasingly threatened by Minaj, making it “an unsafe work environment.”
“Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, it’s not appropriate,” Carey said. “I’m a professional. I’m not used to that type of environment.”
According to the New York Post, the argument between the singers took place during the audition process of the show and was caught on camera. Carey claims that other people on the set heard Minaj go further and make threats involving a gun, but Minaj denies this.
Along with Carey and Minaj, the new season, which premieres starting Jan. 16 on Fox, also features new judge Keith Urban and veteran judge Randy Jackson.
“For all the drama, I hope it helps the show,” said Carey.
