Mark Romanek no longer to direct 'Cinderella'

By Matt Dworman,

Mark Romanek, who was slated to direct the upcoming film, Cinderella, for Disney, has decided to pull out of the project. Romanek’s vision for the adaptation of the classic fairy tale was deemed too dark for the studio.

Deadline also claims that this is not the first time Romanek has dropped out from directing a film. He similarly left The Wolfman for creating too dark of a vision. Romanek’s previous films include Never Let Me Go and One Hour Photo.

Cinemablend reports that Disney has already started looking for a new director and that a director change could also result in a casting change. Disney still hopes to go into production in the summer.

As of now, Cate Blanchett is set to star in the film, which is written by Chris Weitz and Aline Brosh. Saoirse Ronan is reportedly among the actresses who tested for the role.

Unfortunately for us, it looks like Cinderella will have to wait a little longer to find her Prince Charming.
