Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon star in 'Mud,' trailer released (Video)

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey team up for the Indie film Mud, with the first trailer surfacing Wednesday.

Mud is slated to play at the Sundance Film Festival later this week. E! News reports that the A-list actors star as lovers who are kept from one another, as McConaughey is a fugitive who is running from the law.

According to the report, two curious teenagers (played by Dalton Gray and Tye Sheridan) meet up with McConaughey and attempt to figure out what the mysterious “Mud” is about. Mud explains his passion for his long lost love, which sends the boys off to find his girl, played by Witherspoon.

McConaughey is convicted of a crime, of what, viewers are uncertain. Witherspoon appears beaten down throughout the promo while Mud attempts to build a boat, which appears to be his only way of freedom.

In the promo he notes, “There are things you can get away with in this world and things you can't—and there are bigger obstacles in his way than just patching up a rusted-out boat and traversing a few miles.”

The film, which is available for limited release, also stars Sarah Paulson, Michael Shannon and Sam Shepard.
