Meredith Vieira will not return to host 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?' Moving forward with job at NBC

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? will need to find a new host as Meredith Vieira is calling it quits from the hit game show.

According to Washington Post, Vieira hosted the ABC show for eleven seasons. A spokesperson for Disney/ABC Television Group informs, “It’s the final year of Meredith’s contract. She has chosen to move on and pursue other opportunities.”

Vieira has also released a statement in light of her departure. “It’s been a great 11 years,” she said in a statement. “I am about to embark on a new adventure with NBC and I have a digital venture which will be announced shortly. This just seemed like the right time to make the move,” she wrote, as quoted by New York Times.

Vieira, who is noted as the longest-serving female host in history, previously co-hosted NBC’s Today show from 2006-2011.

According to the Times, NBC refused to comment on what Vieira’s upcoming position is with the network.
