Michael Phelps and model girlfriend Megan Rossee split?

Michael Phelps and his girlfriend Megan Rossee have reportedly called it quits after less than a year of dating.

The 22-time Olympic champion swimmer broke up with the model because he didn’t think the relationship had a future, sources tell TMZ.

A split between the two hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s pretty obvious from what they’ve written on Twitter.

“Things happen for a reason. #notme," Phelps tweeted on Monday. Rossee then took to her Twitter page and posted a picture with the words "A woman's loyalty is tested when her man has nothing. A man's loyalty is tested when he has everything." She wrote “Yup. #truth,” as the caption.

The newly-single Rossee then wrote on New Year’s Eve, “The love of my life is the love between friends,” People reports.

She added, "Happy New Year! #truelove #bffs."

TMZ’s sources say that Phelps, who retired after the Summer 2012 Olympic Games, wanted to peruse other options.
