Morrissey hospitalized, cancels tour dates

By Vanessa Frith,

Morrissey, former frontman for The Smiths, has been hospitalized in Michigan.

According to Billboard , the British singer was admitted to William Beaumont Hospital on Friday in Royal Oak, Michigan.

The reason for the hospitalization is due to a suspected bladder infection, stated Lauren Papapietro, his spokeswoman, according to Reuters.

On Thursday, a press release was published on True To You, a zine dedicated to Morrissey, stating that “Morrissey's concert tonight, January 24, in Flint, MI has been cancelled and subsequent performances in Minneapolis (1/25) and Chicago (1/26) are currently being postponed due to band illness.”

According to the Detroit Free Press, the show that was intended to take place at the Whiting in Flint, Michigan was a rescheduled date from Morrissey’s last North American tour in the fall of 2012. The 53-year-old singer had to briefly leave that tour in order to care for his mother.

The tour is expected to continue on Monday in Asheville, North Carolina.
