Last year, MTV picked Lana Del Rey, Frank Ocean, fun., A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar as the 2012 Artists To Watch. On Tuesday, the network revealed this year’s list of artists who hope to be as successful as last year’s artists.
MTV picked British group Atl-J, Austin Mahone, Becky G, Gold Fields, Hunter Hayes, Jessie Ware, Joey Bada$$, Macklemore & Ray Lewis, Robert Delong, Twenty/One/Pilots, trinidad James, Trilogy singer The Weekend and Zedd.
According to MTV, the network will showcase the 13 artists on multiple sites and platforms, including on-air and online with Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr. There will also be a showcase at New York's Highline Ballroom on Jan. 16. Zedd, Jessie Ware, Twenty One Pilots and Robert Delong will be performing.
Some of these artists already had success in 2012, including Hayes, a country singer who earned three Grammy nominations. “It feels amazing to be honored by MTV,” he said, reports Mashable. “2012 blew my mind, so there's always that question of how do we beat last year? This is a good start.”
Individual campaigns will start on Jan. 28. AMTV, mtvU and MTV Hits will host exclusive video premieres from Delong on Jan. 8 and Zedd on Jan. 10.
