NBC is going to Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland with its latest pilot order. The network has ordered a pilot for Wonderland, a project from CSI creator Anthony Zuiker.
According to The Wrap, this new twist of the Alice in Wonderland story tells an alternate story where Alice becomes the evil queen of Wonderland. A woman named Clara comes in when a person tells her that the answers to her troubles are in Wonderland. She heads there and has to battle Alice.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Universal TV is producing the pilot. Zuiker will co-executive produce with JoAnn Alfano of Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Margaret Riley. Whit Anderson penned the pilot.
Zuiker is also working on Taboo at ABC, notes THR.
If Wonderland gets picked up, it will continue a trend to bring fantasy to primetime TV. NBC already has Grimm, while ABC has Once Upon A Time. Both shows have been a success and are in their second seasons.
This is the tenth drama pilot for NBC. On Monday, the network picked up Charlize Theron’s modern-day Hatfields & McCoys. Other projects include J.J. Abrams’ Believe, Jerry Bruckheimer’s The Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives and The Sixth Gun from Carlton Cuse. NBC also has 16 comedy pilots in development.
