Police in New Mexico say they have a horrific crime scene on their hands after a 15-year-old boy allegedly shot and killed his parents and his three young siblings at their Albuquerque home.
ABC affiliate KRQE reports that police suspect Nehemiah Griego shot his father, 51-year-old Greg Griego, his mother, Sara, 40 and his siblings Zephania, 9; Jael, 5 and Angelina, 2.
Bernalillo County deputies arrived at the home Saturday night after receiving a 911 call from someone who said that multiple people were shot at the home. When they arrived, they found the bodies of the victims. They also found several guns, including the assault-type rifle they believe Griego used.
“There's no other way to say it, except that we have a horrific crime scene down there that we are working on,” Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston said Sunday, reports The Associated Press.
Griego was later arrested and charged with two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death.
“Right now we're to the meticulous points of processing the scene and collecting physical evidence, and this is a vast scene with a lot of physical evidence,”Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department spokesman Lt. Sid Covington explained.
The tragedy hit home with law enforcement in the area. Griego’s father was a spiritual leader, known for working with the fire department.
“Chaplain Griego was a dedicated professional that passionately served his fellow man and the firefighters of this community," Fire Chief James Breen stated. “His calming spirit and gentle nature will be greatly missed.”
Houston plans on holding a news conference tomorrow, at which point he will release more information.
