Joe Johnson and the Brooklyn Nets defeated the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden to tie the city rivalry two games apiece. This three game thriller literally came down to Knicks’ JR Smith missing a last second three point shot.
According to the NY Post, Knicks’ star Carmelo Anthony struggled big time tonight as he took 29 shots and only made 11 of them. In the end he had 29 points but only made two of those 29 shots in the fourth quarter. Tonight was not his night as he saw Nets’ Johnson answer the call with 25 points.
Anthony had a chance to take the lead, but he air-balled a jumper and Nets’ Deron Williams was fouled and hit both free throws to put them up by three. In the end Knicks’ Smith missed his three point shot by shooting a bit too strong. He made two buzzer-beating shots this season so he was hoping for the same luck.
The Associated Press reports that Anthony averaged 37 points against the Nets’ over the other three games, but once again he couldn’t deliver tonight. This is the final time the two teams will meet this season, but might have a chance to settle the war in the playoffs. The Nets will play the Minnesota Timberwolves in a few days while the Knicks’ next game will be against the Boston Celtics.
