Open Road is reportedly in talks to distribute Ashton Kutcher’s latest film, a biopic on Apple innovator Steve Jobs, titled jOBS, which is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival later this month.
Deadline reported that Open Road is near a deal with the film’s producers, Five Star Features. It is still not known when Open Road will release the completed picture, but it will definitely open before Sony’s Jobs biopic, which is being written by Aaron Sorkin and is based on Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography.
jOBS is set to have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 27, closing the event in Park City, Utah. The film was directed by Joshua Michael Stern and stars Dermot Mulroney, Josh Gad, and Lukas Haas. It was filmed this past summer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, jOBS centers on Jobs’ beginnings as a college dropout and his successful climb to the top of the tech world as the co-founder of Apple. He died in October 2011 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Open Road has not commented on the reports. THR notes that the film is being packaged so that the producers pay for marketing.
