Scientology remains a hot topic, especially with Lawrence Wright’s exposé Going Clear reaching stores this week. The religion does have its defenders, including Parenthood actress Erika Christensen, who appeared in a series of videos discussing misconceptions with co-star Joy Bryant.
According to Just Jared, Christensen told Bryant that there are three major misconceptions that most people have.
“One, that we are some kind of closed group,” she explained. “Two, that we are the Hollywood religion and three, that we worship rabbits. I don't actually know how many people think that.”
Starpulse reports that Christensen said that she would hope to share the religion with her future children.
“I would expose to them, like, 'This is what I do, which is how my parents did it, because my parents are Scientologists,’” she said. “When I was seven, they did this demonstration. There is this thing in Scientology, it's a study method to demonstrate things out. I would give them the option of, like, these are our study tools. You can use them in school, get good grades, learn.”
Christensen summed up the goal of Scientology as “giving the person back to themselves. Like, your own power of choice.”
Scientology's practices have come under the radar again thanks to Wright's book.
Crash director Paul Haggis said that he left the religion because of its questionable operations. “I was ashamed of my own stupidity, of how I could have been so purposely blind for so many years,” he told Brian Williams on Rock Center. “[It's] incredibly stupid...These are not people you want to mess with.”
