Paula Deen is proud to say she has lost 36 pounds and kept it off since getting diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes more than a year ago.
The Food Network star did an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, in which she told the magazine that she has maintained the success by eating “in moderation.”
"I just needed to learn to eat a normal portion size and not overindulge,” she admits. "In my refrigerator, there's no light mayonnaise. I'd rather eat less of the real thing and have it taste really good than have diet stuff that tastes awful."
Deen also explained that she has a lot to live for – mainly her family.
"I want to be here for my grandchildren. I think about them every day. My daddy was dead at 40. My mother was dead at 44. And look -- I'm 65 and I'm still here! Go, 65!" she said. "Waking up every morning is very exciting for me, to see what the day is going to bring."
The butter-loving chef hasn’t taken out her staple southern foods out of her diet, instead, she just makes the right choices when eating them.
"It's amazing how little changes will give you big results," she explained, Us Magazine reports.
She also credits taking breaks between eating as something that helps her out. “It takes 20 minutes for your stomach to tell your brain that you're full,” she says.
