Prince releases new song, 'Screwdriver' (VIDEO)

By Sarah McClanahan,

Over two years since his last album 20Ten, Prince has released a new song titled “Screwdriver” and an accompanying lyric video.

A new Twitter account, @3rdEyeGirl, shared a link to Prince’s website late Tuesday night. A few videos, including a new Prince song titled “Screwdriver” are showcased on the page. A variety of “Stay Tuned” messages overlay the remaining six boxes. It is safe to assume other videos will be updated on the page as soon as they are ready.

The “3rd Eye Girl” Twitter account was only created in early January. According to The Guardian, it is rumored to belong to Prince’s new backing band, consisting of three women: guitarist Donna Grantis, drummer Hannah Ford and bassist Ida Nielsen.

However, don’t jump to any conclusions and expect a new album from Prince anytime soon. Without a major label, he is set on releasing individual songs for the time being, reports Billboard Magazine.

"That kind of album talk always comes up when something leaks," Prince told Billboard. "But I don't do albums anymore -- I don't have a deal. I do songs."

The next edition of Billboard Magazine, out January 26, will feature Prince on the cover. He will also be performing and receiving the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards in May.
