The craziness for PSY’s “Gangnam Style" continues. During the 27th Golden Disk Awards, Korea’s top music awards show, PSY’s “Gangnam Style” was crowned as Song of the year. The big winner was Korean boy band Super Junior. Their sixth album Sexy, Free & Single won the top album
Nicknamed the ‘Korean Grammy Awards,' the Golden Disk Awards began in 1986 and is Korea’s most prestigious awards ceremony for music. The two-day events held outside Korea, in Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia this year. The first day (Jan. 15) honors the winners of the physical album categories, while the second day (Jan. 16) honors for digital albums, reported Allkpop.
Beginning last year, “Gangnam Style” began a hit with PSY’s riding dance and the line “Oppa, Gangnam Style”. It won the song of the year, determined largely by downloads and ringtone sales, reported the AP.
The boy band Super Junior won the grand prize: Disk Daesang (album of the year). It is their third time and second year in a row that they won the Album of the Year. Last year, they won it for their fifth album, Mr. Simple, and in 2009 for the album Sorry Sorry. They also won the MSN Southeast Asia Award, selected in an online poll by MSN users across Southeast Asia.
