Although Daniel Craig has signed on for two more James Bond movies, he believes the Twilight actor Robert Pattinson is the perfect candidate to take on the role after him.
According to Hollywood Life, Craig is contracted to star in two more films from the James Bond franchise, but he is already lining up potential replacements for the coveted role, one of them being Robert Pattinson, because he wants to concentrate on starting a family with his wife Rachel Weisz.
“Daniel told Rob he’d make a brilliant Bond and would like to see a young talented British actor take on the role,” a source tells OK! Magazine. ”Daniel’s signed on for two more Bond movies but is convinced he’ll do no more — for one thing, he hopes to start a family with Rachel soon and wants to focus on that.”
Pattinson was flattered – and frankly shocked– by Craig’s compliment, particularly because he is a big fan of his work.
”He’s a monumental fan of Daniel’s and told him so, but he was completely taken aback when the compliments were returned,” the source continued to OK! Magazine.
Craig further admires Pattinson for the way he maintained a professional front despite the media examining and criticizing his private life.
“Daniel really admires how Robert has handled the intense scrutiny of his personal life — he and Rachel are obsessively private,” says the source. “He really felt for Rob when Kristen Stewart’s cheating played out in the media. To go through that, but also maintain a level of professionalism and carry on working, shows amazing strength of character.”
However, Craig’s opinion of Robert Pattinson’s co-star and girlfriend, Kristen Stewart may be different, reports Cambio.
On the Australian radio show The Kyle and Jackie O Show this past November, Craig told the hosts Stewart would not make a decent Bond girl because of her Twilight roots, but then retracted the statement.
“Would she make a good Bond girl? No, she’s in Twilight. No, I’m being nasty. It’s only because the film [Skyfall] is coming out at the same time [as Breaking Dawn – Part 2 in Australia], we’re in direct competition! I’m sure she’d make a great Bond girl.”
