Selena Gomez is newly single. The 20-year-old actress recently broke up with superstar Justin Bieber after more than two years of dating. While she’s having fun on the dating scene, she’s definitely not going too crazy.
She's nothing like her Spring Breakers character, which she revealed In the new issue of NYLON magazine, took her out of her element.
"I definitely felt that with my first stepping-out role, I should choose something that I could understand a little more. I was really nervous, but [Director]Harmony [Korine] took a chance with me," Gomez told the magazine, according to Us Weekly. "He said, 'You live in this bubble, and I'm going to take you out of it, but you have to trust me.'"
To do that, Harmony cast Gomez as Faith. Although her character doesn’t get as crazy as her co-stars Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine, and Vanessa Hudgens, she was still doing things that “I would get so much hate and in trouble for.”
Some of those things include hard-partying, drinking and smoking. She says, though, that she was such an inexperienced bad girl that "I had to have someone show me how to hold the cigarette."
Up until now, Gomez has taken on family-friendly roles. She did get her start on Disney Channel. Knowing that she has a young fanbase, she responsibly warned parents.
"I've told parents, 'Make sure you don't let your kids see Spring Breakers because with the title, you could think it would be cute or something," she said. "I know it isn't for the younger generation I have following me, but I'm also about to be 21. I felt like it was my little side project that I was super excited about, that would be under the radar."
Spring Breakers is due to hit theaters on March 22. Watch the first full trailer below:
