Veteran actress Shirley MacLaine, who plays Martha Levinson in the third season of Downton Abbey, says the castle that they film the show in is haunted.
The Oscar winner proclaims that Highclere Castle, which is a 400-year-old estate in England, has ghosts, noting “I am very much into that stuff.”
“It was a fantastic experience; Highclere was haunted and the pictures came off the wall,” she explained, The New York Daily News reports. “The energy of the castle, grounds, (its) past and the hauntings was inspiring. I am very much into that stuff.”
According to E! Online, MacLaine says that one reason for the haunting could be because of famous artifacts being stored there.
“They had the tomb of King Tut in the basement,” she said, adding, "Shooting there was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
The 78-year-old actress joined the cast of PBS’ Downton Abbey in its third season and she plays the mother of Elizabeth McGovern's Lady Cora.
