The alleged gunman who fired shots at the Lone Star community college campus in Harris County, Texas has been identified and charged by police.
Carlton Berry, 22, was identified as the shooter and is currently in jail. He was treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to the buttocks, reports KHOU.
Police now have a better picture of the events that transpired at the campus yesterday, but are still investigating. They say an argument broke out between Berry and a student who has not been identified.
According to KTRK, a maintenance man was hit by gunfire and treated at a hospital. A woman, who was not wounded was taken to a hospital for a medical check.
“I saw two dudes basically get into an altercation and the dude that shot, he basically got angry and started shooting the other guy,” student Brittany Mobley, who said she saw the incident, told KHOU. “A lot of people heard a lot of shots.”
After the incident, medical personnel and police rushed to the scene, with memories of last month’s Newtown, CT tragedy still fresh in some minds. The school confirmed that there were 10,000 people on campus at the time. It remained closed for the rest of Tuesday, but reopened today.
KHOU reports that Berry was charged with aggravated assault.
