After the SAG awards, Private Practice’s Taye Diggs restrained a burglar who had broken into his garage.
Sunday turned out to be a very eventful evening for Diggs. While his character is used to saving lives as a doctor on ABC's Private Practice, Diggs saved his family from a crime.
At the Screen Actors Guild Awards, he recognized Homeland’s Claire Danes for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama alongside Cougar Town’s Busy Philipps.
During the after party, Diggs and his wife Idina Menzel took charge of the dance floor, with music provided by DJ Paesche, reports People Magazine.
Arriving to his Studio City home at around 11:20pm, Diggs realized an intruder, later identified as 20-year-old Hassan Juma, had broken into his garage.
Juma attemped to escape, but Diggs ran after him, tackled him to the ground, and managed to hold him until police arrived.
"The suspect tried to run away, but [Diggs] chased him down the street and was able to detain him until police arrived," Richard French, LAPD spokesman, told People.
Police intervened and arrested Juma, who is currently in jail. His bail was posted at $50,000.
According to NY Daily News, police have found this case similar to LL Cool J’s acts of bravery. This past August, the rapper broke the nose, jaw, and ribs of a burglar he discovered in the kitchen of his Studio City home.
