Super producer Timbaland has joined Jay-Z’s Roc Life imprint.
Jay made the news official on his Life & Times blog, posting an image of the two working in the studio. He added the headline, “And I Won’t Surrender It With Beats By Timbaland” and the caption, “Roc Nation welcomes Timbaland to the family.”
According to MTV News, Jay-Z and Timbaland are longtime collaborators and friends. While they most recently collaborated on Justin Timberlake’s single “Suit & Tie,” they have been working together as far back as 1998. They worked on “Jigga What, Jigga Who” (from Vol. 2: Hard Knock Life) and “Big Pimpin'” (from Vol. 3 ... Life and Times of S. Carter) and later for “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” in 2003 for The Black Album. In 2009, they worked with Drake on “Off That” from The Blueprint 3.
Timbaland has been in the business for over 20 years and has worked with artists such as No Doubt, Missy Elliott, Janet Jackson, Usher, Chris Brown and Jennifer Lopez. He also worked with Timberlake on FutureSex/LoveSounds.
The Versed notes that Roc Nation’s roster has continued to grow and now includes Jahlil Beats, Lab Ox, Stargate and many others.
