‘Walking Dead’ producer Scott Gimble promoted to showrunner for fourth season

By Daniel S Levine,

The Walking Dead has found yet another showrunner. Supervising producer Scott Gimble was promoted to the job to replace the departing Glen Mazzara.

Back in December, when AMC renewed the hit zombie drama for a fourth season, the network announced that Mazzara was leaving because of “a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward.”

Gimble will be the show’s third showrunner. Frank Darabont left at the beginning of season two and was replaced by Mazzara.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gimble joined the show during season two, with Mazzara naming him his No. 2. He wrote three episodes during the season, including one co-written with Mazzara. Gimble also wrote two episodes of the current season three.

Mazzara has finished work on the rest of season three, so Gimble will take over when production resumes later this year.

The Walking Dead’s third season resumes on Feb. 10 at 9 p.m. The December midseason finale drew 10.5 million viewers.

According to TV Line, prior to working on The Walking Dead, Gimble wrote episodes of the short lived NBC series Chase and ABC’s FlashForward.
