The first week of the new year and we are already saying goodbye to a legend. Singer Patti Page passed away on New Year’s Day. In the 1950’s, she was a best-selling artist known for her signature song “Tennessee Waltz.”

American Idol singer Kris Allen was injured in a car accident with his pregnant wife on New year’s day. The couple though “beat up” are okay as well as their dog who was in the car with them.

Lady Gaga starts the new year by doing good. She will be offering therapy to her teen fans in a fun format. Gaga is looking to combat issues like depression and bullying.

2013 will hopefully be a better year for Green Day and their frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. They plan to resume touring in 2013 and thank fans for their support through Armstrong’s rehab.

Britney Spears meanwhile is working on new music with songwriter Elijah Blake who worked with Rihanna and Usher.

Springsteen’s annual MusiCares tribute during Grammy week in LA will feature artists like Mumford and Sons, Sting, and Elton John.

Taylor Swift remained number one on the Billboard charts to close out 2012. The Les Miserables soundtrack was in the number two slot.

At the end of January Adam Levine will host Saturday Night Live.

Al Pacino and Helen Mirren are working on a HBO film about music producer Phil Spector in March.

And finally, Jay-Z will be contributing to the film version of The Great Gasby with Leonardo DiCaprio in May.
